Years ago I started using a windows program called "NewsGator" as a way of monitoring news stories on a large number of websites by having the updates automatically posted to my Outlook inbox. After my love affair with Outlook ended, I moved to using another of Newsgator's products: Feed Demon, which was a stand alone RSS (real simple syndication) client. It let me monitor sites in the background and read hundreds of articles a day.
When I switched to the Mac, I bought a copy of "NetNewsWire" from the same company and things went swimingly along.
When people have asked me for recomendations of software to use for RSS monitoring, I've told them that they can use Firefox or Safari for free, but if they'd like a little more fine grain control and are willing to spend the money, they ought to consider a dedicated feed-reader from Newsgator or something similar. (Newsgator is particularly useful if you read from multiple computers since it will keep your place in sync between the computers - and your cellphone if you're as much a junky as I am.)
So good news today - now you can use all this for *free*!

I actually switched over to an online news reader, Bloglines, and have been very happy with it, especially as I often switch between work and home computers, as well as using it with my Treo.

Yeah. I used to use bloglines as well, except that Newsgator has a mobile access interface as well. So I can use my computer, my laptop, or my cellphone - and all of them stay in sync with each other.
